Yuzen: Making of Japanese Kites

Yūzen is a Japanese resist dyeing technique where dyes are applied inside outlines of dyed or undyed rice-paste resist, which may be drawn freehand or stencilled; the paste keeps the dye areas separated.

As part of the MFA field trip in Fall 2023, students crafted a digital pattern which was then transferred to a cloth material used to make Japanese kites. The project is still in the process of exhibiting.
